Location: Cape Town/ Neighbouring Areas, South Africa
Availability: Weekly, long-term engagement (retainer or permanent) - hybrid between working in office and working from home.
Focus: Story-driven visual content for Woodbender’s YouTube channel & digital platforms
Overview:
Woodbender is looking for a talented and creative Cinematographer / Filmmaker who has a passion for storytelling and a strong desire to grow in a long-term role. This person will be responsible for filming, editing, and producing weekly video content for our YouTube channel — helping us build an engaging, visually inspiring brand presence.
This role is ideal for a young, ambitious creative who wants to take ownership of a brand channel, experiment, develop their craft, and grow with us over time.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation & Cinematography
- Film high-quality weekly content at Woodbender’s facilities, showrooms, and on location.
- Capture a wide range of formats, including: Behind-the-scenes processes “How it’s made” stories Product features Interviews Team spotlights Client installations
- Short-form and long-form YouTube content
- Ensure footage is visually consistent with Woodbender’s brand identity.
- Plan, film, edit, and publish weekly videos.
- Develop a storytelling style and visual language for the channel.
- Monitor performance analytics and iterate content accordingly.
- Manage titles, thumbnails, descriptions, and SEO tags for optimal reach.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to conceptualise video ideas and build a content calendar.
- Bring fresh ideas and new storytelling approaches.
- Identify opportunities to showcase craftsmanship, process, and brand personality.
- Edit weekly videos with strong narrative flow and attention to detail.
- Manage file storage, backups, and organised content workflows.
- Coordinate shoot logistics, equipment, and schedules.
- Work closely with multiple internal teams (design, manufactured, sales, leadership).
- Provide direction to on-camera team members when needed.
- Strong understanding of cinematography (composition, lighting, camera movement).
- Experience with DSLRs, mirrorless cameras.
- Proficiency in editing software.
- Shooting in log and familiar with colour grading.
- Ability to capture clean audio and set up basic lighting.
- Drone experience is a plus.
- Directing ability - guide the production team, clearly communicating creative vision, pacing, and framing to craft engaging, viewer-focused videos.
- Ability to craft engaging narratives from raw footage and everyday moments.
- Comfort generating video ideas, themes, and story structures.
- Strong sense of pacing, emotion, and brand-aligned tone.
- Understanding of YouTube formats, algorithms, upload optimisation, and audience engagement.
- Experience with both short-form and long-form video content.
